A Historic and Diverse Port City – Mobile, Alabama

With almost a half million people in the metro area, Mobile is a city in the state of Alabama in the South of the United States of America. Mobile is a historic, diverse port city with a strong southern culture and heritage that attracts people to come here for their vacations. Home to the oldest Mardi Gras celebration in the United States, Mobile is the original capital of French Louisiana. In 1813 Mobile first became a part of the United States of America, and to become a part of the Confederate States of America left the United States with Alabama in 1861 and then back to the United States in 1865.

The only seaport in Alabama, Mobile is located at the junction of the Mobile River and Mobile Bay on the northern Gulf of Mexico. Founded by French Canadian brothers Pierre Le Moyne d’Iberville and Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne, Sieur de Bienville, in order to establish control over France’s Louisiana claims with Bienville having been made governor of French Louisiana in 1701, Mobile was first established in 1702.
